The US announced sanctions on 8 September 2026. That verified announcement alone does not establish a Turkish government ban on all cargo to Iran.

Blanket ban not verified

As of 11 September 2026, we have not verified a blanket Turkish government ban on all cargo to Iran in the official sources reviewed. This does not establish shipment acceptance or legal compliance.

What do the official notices say?

The US Treasury’s 8 September 2026 sanctions announcement covers Iranian aviation activities and includes Türkiye-based cargo service providers. [1] OFAC published a corresponding action notice. [2] These US actions should not be presented as a Turkish government cargo ban. Carrier acceptance for the specific route and cargo requires separate assessment.

Four written checks before handing over cargo

  1. Shipment details and documents

Share the contents, quantity, tariff code if known, consignee and intended use. Ask your agent to confirm required documents and permissions in writing.

  2. Current carrier acceptance

Through your agent, obtain written confirmation that the relevant carrier accepts this cargo on the proposed route and planned shipping date.

  3. Handover and delay arrangements

Confirm in writing when and where to deliver the cargo, and what happens if acceptance, customs clearance or transport is delayed.

  4. Charges and responsibilities

Confirm storage, handling and return terms in writing, including who authorises those services and who pays any resulting charges.

Shipping without confirmation can incur costs

Rejected or delayed cargo may incur significant storage, handling or return charges, depending on the circumstances. A fixed fee or automatic penalty should not be assumed. Coordinate with your freight agent; obtain written acceptance and cost terms before dispatch or any action that could incur charges. Agent or carrier acceptance does not replace applicable laws or required customs permissions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ship if a blanket ban has not been verified?

Check the rules and permissions applicable to your shipment. Obtain written carrier acceptance through your agent before handing over cargo; the finding alone is insufficient.

How can I find out about storage or return charges?

Ask your agent for shipment-specific terms stating when charges start and who pays them. Costs depend on the services and shipment conditions.
